An Open Letter To The West Great Lakes Fellowship concerning ACA meetings on Facebook

The InterGroup has received a complaint about an ACA Facebook interaction. Specifically, an ACAer elected to share something personal on the ACA Facebook site. The result was bullying by several people also on this Facebook site. The ACAer felt humiliated, manipulated, and did not receive the support they were looking for.

While the InterGroup [IG] does not sanction, approve, or condone this type of bullying behavior, the IG feels that it is also important to point out the following to the Fellowship:

  • There are NO Facebook groups or sites that are affiliated with the West Great Lakes InterGroup.
  • Likewise, there are no other social media sites of any type that are affiliated with the West Great Lakes InterGroup.
  • Anonymity at the level of the press, radio, television, film, and social media [Tradition 11] is strongly suggested and recommended, IF an ACAer elects to enter Facebook or any other social media site.
  • Personal information or โ€˜sharesโ€™ are likely best limited to a communication with a Sponsor or Fellow Traveler or someone who knows and actively works the 12 Steps and that is trustworthy.

The IG wants to be sensitive to the needs of the Fellowship, and hence, is taking this step to inform the Fellowship of this complaint.  It is the IGโ€™s hope that good will come from this bad situation.
